Don't look at me.  I am with Peter Kay.

"You know that look a woman gives you when she really wants sex?"

"No. Neither do I"

This is a British Psychological Society sponsored talk:

How Sexual Desire Works?
Dr Frederick Toates

Wednesday 25 February 2015
St Olaves Hotel, Mary Arches Street, Exeter, EX4 3AZ (Their website is:

6.00pm - 8.00pm (6.30pm start)

The range of sexual desires and behaviour is vast (e.g. fetishes, voyeurism,
exhibitionism, pornography, addictive and violent desire). Trying to
understand this can be daunting. This talk will argue that considerable
insight can be gained by seeing how a few underlying component processes
that are features of 'normal desire' can get out of normal alignment and
contribute to such deviations from normal. The role of dopamine, learning
and arousal will be discussed.

Frederick Toates is an experimental psychologist and Emeritus Professor of
Biological Psychology at the Open University, where he has held an academic
position for the last 36 years. In addition to his British-based teaching,
he has taught undergraduate classes in Denmark, Sweden, Holland, France,
Germany, Romania, Moldova and the USA. An author of 12 books, his latest is
entitled 'How Sexual Desire Works: The Enigmatic Urge' and was published by
Cambridge University Press in September of this year. His book 'Biological
Psychology' is widely used for teaching undergraduates in many universities.
His research concerns motivation, what moves us into action.

These are free events and open to everyone including BPS members, students
and the General Public. There is no booking requirement.

This event is free to attend and is being financially supported by the
British Psychology Society's South West of England Branch, who has invested
in the event for the benefit of their members.
